Hopsewee Plantation is the birthplace of Thomas Lynch Jr, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independance. Built almost fourty years prior to the Revolutionary War, it is now a National Historic Landmark.

Founded in 1989, the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art museum strives to foster appreciation for and participation in the visual arts. Exibitions by national artists have established the museum as the primary arts venue in the area. Special exibits are displayed, plus an ongoing permanant exibit to see. Special events and classes as well as a gift shop and an art library are also located in the museum.
